20 Years On - Berlin Wall Thoughts and Reflections….

Date November 9, 2009

…..I never understood the politics of any of it, all we knew was that people had died trying to get over the wall, and that East Berliners were not allowed into the west until that day. It was quite an scary sight when you walked along the wall to see the towers with armed gaurds in them. I remember once visiting East Berlin and thinking how much poorer and scruffy people looked. there is a picture at my mum’s with my brother sister and me on the “other side” of the wall once they were in the process of taking it down….. the most memorable thing was greeting the easteners as the came over to the west. As for the cars we all thought they we funny cars, and were told that they were mainly the only car people from the east drove as they weren’t very expensive. …..
