Ebay Watch - Nice 1972 Trabant
September 17, 2008
It is not yet UK registered, and it has a bit of a bad DIY paint job on the passenger door, but I like this and am even semi-tempted to bid on it myself. My first Trabant was yellow.
The description is as follows (and ignore the bit about it only being little and light!): A 1972 Trabant 601 east german workers car. it has come over from Prague and was tested and taxed there last may and its plates are current until may 2009 and is still on european plates.
It will need to be regestered if staying here at acost of £68 you just get a form from your local DVLA and fill in your particulars. I have all the vehicle regestration documents and the original DDR log papers.
It was trailerd over to my wife who is Slovakian and we thought we would sort out the door and interior and she could use it to accompany me to classic vehicle shows, however she is a new driver and cant work the column shift. everything works ok I have even got a workshop manual and the original petrol tank dip stick to measure how much fuel is in the tank.
Someone has tried to reskin the passanger door and has done a very poor job (see Photo) The car runs well and all the gears and the free wheel top gear all work fine. apart from the door the duraplast bodywork is in great original condition . It is a great fun car and every where we go in it people just stare and wave .
This is a great chance to own a low price peice of history its not the fastest thing on four wheels and I have only ever done a ninety mile round trip in it but it all worked great and we had a lot of fun.
The car is as it looks on the photos and can be driven away if desired but if you are going along way remember it is only little and light and I recon only does about 60mph . The speedo odometer reading is 66.244 kilometeres
