Trans National Trabant Tour 2007

Date February 14, 2008

In July 2007 the expedition of three men traced the Silk Road into Central Asia deserts, in a Trabant. The idea of using a Trabant sums up a lot about the adventure and excitement that motoring used to have but has for years been diminished as cars get more and more reliably, more computer orientated, and more specialist. The idea of knowing 100% that when you set out on a long journey you will get to your destination is sometimes a bit boring. Where is the excitement of traveling gone when you are cocooned in an air-conditioned comfort zone, detached from the outside world. This seems to have played a bit part in the choice of vehicle here, and when your car is as simple and proven as a Trabant, how hard can it ever be to make roadside repairs? Their journey took them through 12 countries a total distance of 15000km.
