Christmas Day on Trabant Trek
January 17, 2008
Following my post about Trabant Trek and how they reached their destination I have had great enjoyment reading further on their blog. Particular amusement on how they spent their Christmas Day stranded in a village with two running Trabants and one dead, with the assumption of seeing the engine of the dead one being split and opened up with a chisel that it meant one Trabant was not going to leave this village!
Leaving a Trabant behind must have had been quite sad. Anyone who drives a Trabant knows just how unique they are, no two feel and handle the same, each has it’s own character. It must have had been sad for the driver of the Kombi that was choosen to be the Trabant that would stay and become a donor of many spares, infact as a Kombi owner myself I would like to think I was able to share a bit of the sadness! So, the Kombi was stripped of everything that was thought to be of use for the rest of the trip and off they went, now only two Trabants, although they were soon to return to the village….. As the driver of the Kombi and the mechanic on the trek I would have to say that it was the worst Christmas of my life. Thanks for following along.

Hi,
Great site, i didn’t know there were so many UK Trabbi owners.
I’m pleased you liked the blogs, we had quite an adventure, really pushed the cars, going over the Pamir Mountains, across Siberia, the Gobi desert, and the length of China. And i mean pushed them. Damn alternators kept breaking.
They got through most of it though, and i’ll always love them.
In case you liked the blogs, i’ve just finished the book about the trip, and it is now available to preorder:
