Billingshurst - bad news for cars, good news for 5-a-side football
November 22, 2007
The main car park in Billingshurst, not on a quiet sunday afternoon, but midweek when normally it would be hard to find a parking space.
Since Monday, car parking charges have been introduced and it's gone from an over filled car park to a deserted part of town. I'm sure I sure at least 7 cars at sometime, nowhere near quarter full though.
This is of course bad news for Billingshurst. The residence who have flats adjoining the carpark are still waiting for their parking permits that they are having to pay for. Workers in nearby offices now park in the local authority carpark down the road next to the library, or on the street. The big losers though are the shops and businesses on the complex (owned by the same people who own the carpark maybe) who no longer have cars stopping by. The local streets that were once clear are now full of company cars, while trying to find a space to nip into the library in the other carpark is impossible.
The answer for locals is why bother coming into Billingshurst and having to pay the same for parking that you do for Horsham (and all it's bigger shops that it offers).
At least now though…. we have a clear place to play 5-a-side football at lunch time.
