The date….

Date June 7, 2006

A DateReplacing a fence, all quite a simple job. Hey, I seem to find myself replacing bits of fence at least once a year and so think of myself as quite knowledgable in this area! I seem to find myself replacing fence posts and panels in the wind and the rain….
Well - not this time. I thought instead of me spending days bodging up putting a fence up, we would pay someone to bodge it up for us. Maybe it will mean I won’t be having my annual weekend of digging out rotten fence posts in the middle of winter.

Our fence has been down for quite some time now, and it’s nearly T&Js birthday - a party in the garden with a dodgy fence does not look good :-)

How hard is it to find a fence person? First person turned up, gave us a quote, and then the next day when I told him the job was his, he tried to add another £100 on top of it. I don’t think so!!

We looked at next doors fence and noticed the name and address of the company who put it up. Their fence looks quite good and sturdy, so a good advert. We did turn up to have a look when he said he would, posted as an estimate like he said he would. It’s a lot of money, but I won’t look when I write the cheque out…..

I started to get worred when I just could not get through to him on the phone to tell him he had the job and to arrange a date. Two days, no answer on either his house phone or mobile phone, no return of messages left.

So, I was all ready to prepare myself to do it myself when we had a message on the phone after being out for the day. It was the fence bloke, saying he had got my message and been away for a couple of days - how would the 21st be for doing the fence. He would call back in the evening, he said in his message. Well - we have heard things like that before.

But, later that evening, a woman (probably his wife I would think) phoned up, was very nice, and we confirmed everything.

The date is set…. the 21st. We will have a new fence….

Now - onto the new bathroom floor…..
